Blending is the skill of sounding out letters all through a word into a natural sounding word.
The letters on this page select words which are easy to draw out slowly.
This should make it easier for children to learn to transition from sounding out individual letters to blending them into a natural sounding word.
To start off, point to the first letter of the word and say the sound, then move your finger
to the next letter and say the sound and so forth. For example, for the word 'mat' say: m-m-m-a-a-a-t.
Do this again more quickly until the word is pronounced naturally. The child should follow this procedure until he/she can
read the word and understand it.
