Select a vowel and a consonant. 'Words' are created which use these letters to form english-like words. Have the student read these words until they can pronounce them easily. Add additional letters to make the list longer and more challenging. Keep track of which letters have been taught. Note that there are 2 “th” checkboxes—the underlined one should be pronounced as a voiced “th” as in “then”. The other one should be pronounced as a voiceless “th” as in “bath”.
When you are ready to move the student to reading real English words I recommend that you use the SynPhony Prototype page. It can also be accessed from the menu at the top of the page. Click on the SynPhony menu item, then select the SynPhony Prototype. This page allows you to log in with your student's name to keep track of which letters have been covered. This makes it easier to come back and keep going where you left off. It also makes sure that the student only sees words with letter patterns that they have been taught before. Be sure to read the help page on how to take advantage of all the powerful features this page offers.
