Story Tagging page

(For instructions, see below)

Instructions

In the top space above you may enter your story by pasting it into the input box.

1) First choose the main character from the first dropdown list. This name will be tagged as the main character in your story and respond to selections made to the main actor controls.

2) Next, choose your secondary character from the next dropdown list. This name will be tagged as the secondary character in your story and respond to selections made to the secondary actor controls.

3) Next, press the "Check Vocabulary" button to see if you have any words in your story which do not occur in the database. Any words which do not occur there will be listed in the second textbox as well as any misspelled words.

4) When all your words pass the vocabulary test, you may press the "Process Story" button to move on to the next stage.

NOTE: the Greek database uses only Unicode. Please ensure that the text you enter is Unicode text. In the case of accented Greek characters there is a possible point of confusion in that two versions of some (+/-16) accented characters exist for Unicode Greek characters: monotonic Greek and polytonic Greek. The correct version to use for Koine Greek is polytonic Greek whose accented characters occur in the 1F00-1FFF Unicode range. In most fonts there is no visible difference between the monotonic and polytonic version of the same accented Greek characters. One font that does make a slight distinction between the two sets is "Galatia SIL".

Potential problems

After pressing the button "Process Story" check through the second box below to see if there are any instances of text surrounded by asterisks (eg. ***τόν***). Any asterisks will not allow the script to exchange that word.

This can be due to 2 reasons:

  1. The word is misspelled. To rule this out check the spelling carefully, especially to see that accents and diacritics are correct. Find the spelling errors in your source text, correct them and re-process the story until the tagged version does not contain any asteriks anymore.
  2. The word is not supported in the database. You're stuck. Either choose another word which you know is in the database or lobby the webmaster of this site to add that word to the database.

Manually tweaking the story

Even though your story has been processed successfully and doesn't contain any asterisks it doesn't mean that you are finished with it yet. In some circumstances you might want to or have to tweak the tags.
